LONGMONT — While some companies are trying to ride out the recession by staying in survival mode, others are taking whatever steps they can to improve the way they do business.

“The more you can upgrade your staffing at this time, it’s beneficial to the company down the road,” said Scott Rupprecht, CEO of Frederick’s Star Precision, which recently received two grants to help its employees improve their skills.
